The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has announced applications for the 2026 Kano Labour Institute programme aimed at strengthening labour education and worker empowerment in Nigeria.

The initiative was created at a time when opportunities for labour education across the country are gradually declining. CITAD said the programme is designed to equip workers, trade unionists, academics, and civil society actors with practical knowledge and skills needed to navigate the changing realities of industrial relations in Nigeria.

The Kano Labour Institute is expected to serve as a platform where participants can gain deeper understanding of labour issues, workers’ rights, advocacy, organising strategies, and policy engagement.

In the official announcement released by CITAD, the organisation explained that the programme seeks to bridge existing gaps in labour education by empowering participants with modern tools and relevant expertise.

Who Can Apply?

CITAD stated that the programme is open to individuals and groups involved in labour and social advocacy activities. Eligible participants include:

  • Staff of trade unions and labour activists
  • Young academics interested in labour studies and politics
  • Civil society activists

The organisation noted that the programme would particularly benefit individuals interested in understanding industrial relations, workers’ welfare, labour policies, and advocacy strategies in Nigeria.

Programme Details

According to the application flier, the Kano Labour Institute programme will run for two days and will be conducted on a non-residential basis.

Programme details include:

  • Duration: 2 Days
  • Mode: Non-residential
  • Venue: CITAD, No. 4 Sama’ila Gano Street, Off Social Insurance Road, Gandu, Kano
  • Date: To be announced later

Although the exact training dates have not yet been released, applicants are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline.

Important Information for Applicants

CITAD stated that interested participants will not be required to pay any registration fee for the programme.

However, participants will be responsible for their transportation and accommodation expenses during the training period.

The organisation also disclosed that lunch and light refreshments would be provided for participants throughout the programme.

Why the Programme Matters

Labour education programmes have become increasingly important as workers and labour groups continue to face changing economic realities, workplace challenges, and policy shifts.

CITAD believes the Kano Labour Institute can help strengthen advocacy efforts by providing participants with updated knowledge and practical engagement skills.

The organisation added that empowering labour activists, academics, and civil society actors could contribute to stronger industrial relations and better representation of workers’ interests across Nigeria.

Interested applicants are expected to visit www.citad.org.ng for more information before the deadline scheduled for June 30, 2026.
