The Edo State Government has begun discussions with the Nigeria Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) on a plan that could enable residents to acquire computers, digital devices and solar energy systems through flexible payment arrangements.

The initiative followed an engagement between the Edo State Information and Communication Technology Agency (Edo ICTA) and CREDICORP at the corporation’s office in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by the Managing Director of Edo ICTA, Mr. Eghosa Ughoghide, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Engr. Dr. Uzoma Nwagba, alongside members of the team
According to Ughoghide, the discussions centred on developing practical consumer-credit solutions that would allow residents, entrepreneurs and businesses to spread the cost of essential technology and renewable energy equipment over an agreed period.
He said the proposed financing arrangement was aimed at reducing the burden created by the high upfront cost of purchasing computers, digital devices and solar systems.
Ughoghide said the initiative would support the digital objectives of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, particularly efforts to expand digital access, promote enterprise development and drive technology-led economic growth.
He added that affordable financing could help entrepreneurs, small businesses, students and households gain access to technology that might otherwise remain beyond their financial capacity.
The Edo ICTA boss also said easier access to solar energy systems could provide households and businesses with reliable power solutions, while supporting digital activities and improving productivity.
Nwagba expressed support for exploring financing models that would make productive assets more accessible to Nigerians.
He stressed the importance of partnerships in expanding the reach of consumer credit, particularly in areas capable of supporting productivity, enterprise development and improved livelihoods.
The engagement forms part of Edo ICTA’s efforts to build strategic partnerships aimed at promoting technology access, digital inclusion and innovation-led economic development.
If implemented, the financing arrangement could give more Edo residents and businesses an opportunity to acquire technology and solar equipment without bearing the entire purchase cost upfront, although details of the financing scheme, including eligibility, repayment terms and commencement date, were not disclosed.
