The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has invited applications for its 2026/2027 Local Post-Graduate Scholarship Programme for eligible indigenes of the Niger Delta region.
The programme aims to help qualified young people acquire advanced knowledge and professional skills in fields relevant to regional development and the Federal Government’s Local Content Programme. Applicants must seek a master’s degree at a recognised Nigerian university.
The commission says the scholarship is intended to promote academic excellence and professional development while building skills needed to support the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta and Nigeria.

Applicants must:

- Hold a relevant bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognised university.
- Have a valid admission letter for a master’s programme at a recognised Nigerian university.
- Possess a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
- Applicants with a Higher National Diploma (HND) must have at least Upper Credit and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), where applicable.
- Meet any other requirements prescribed by the commission.
Required documents
Applicants must upload a recent passport photograph, Local Government identification letter, master’s admission letter, academic certificates, NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, birth certificate or valid statutory age declaration, National Identification Number (NIN) slip and any other documents required. All details must be accurate and verifiable. False declarations or forged documents may lead to disqualification.
Selection process
Applications undergo preliminary screening, including checks of WASSCE/NECO results, academic qualifications, relevant postgraduate qualifications where applicable, local government identification and NIN. Shortlisted candidates take a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in Akwa Ibom, Edo or Rivers State and must score at least 70 per cent for further consideration. Applicants must select their preferred CBT zone during registration.
Candidates who meet the threshold may be invited for an oral interview and final verification of admission, academic credentials and indigene status through the relevant Local Government Area (LGA) and, where applicable, Community Development Committee (CDC). Meeting the CBT threshold does not guarantee an award.
Important information
Preference will be given to qualified candidates from oil-producing host communities and Local Government Areas, provided they meet the cut-off mark and other conditions. NDDC says awards will be distributed across Niger Delta states and approved disciplines under its selection framework. Only candidates finally approved by the commission will become beneficiaries. Scholarship deferment and changes of institution or course are not permitted unless expressly approved.
The application is free. Applicants should use official NDDC channels and ignore anyone requesting payment to secure an award. The commission says it will not contact candidates individually if they are not shortlisted or selected. Applicants should keep copies of submitted records and monitor announcements for updates about screening, test arrangements and subsequent stages.
