Katsina Local Government Council, in partnership with NEXIN Enterprises, officially kicked off the Solar System Installation, Operation & Maintenance Training for selected candidates under Batch A.

The training commenced today, Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the NEXIN Training Centre, Mai Koko Plaza, Nagogo Road, Katsina. A total of 35 candidates drawn from various wards in Katsina Local Government Area have been shortlisted for this highly impactful technical training programme.

“This initiative is part of our grassroots development agenda to equip youths with the right skills for the growing solar energy industry,” said Hon. Isah Miqdad AD-Saude, the Executive Chairman of Katsina Local Government Council. “We are investing in our people, because that is the most valuable resource we have.”

The candidates were selected through a recent screening exercise coordinated by the council and NEXIN Enterprises. This project aims to increase access to clean energy and create more employment opportunities in renewable energy, especially in rural communities.

According to a release from the Katsina LGC Press Centre, “These individuals have been duly verified and are set to receive comprehensive training and orientation as part of our ongoing grassroots development agenda.”

The full list of candidates includes names like Abdullahi Surajo from Shinkafi B, Yusuf Hussain from Yamma II, and Muhammad Musa from Kudu I, among others. Wards represented include Gabas I & II, Kudu I, II & III, Kangiwa, Yamma I & II, and Arewa A & B, covering a broad spectrum of the LGA’s communities.

The training, which focuses on solar panel installation, solar power maintenance, and technical support, is also designed to address the rising demand for clean energy solutions in Nigeria. With increasing interest in renewable energy jobs and solar system technology, participants are expected to gain practical, hands-on skills that will make them employable or even self-reliant.

Energy sector stakeholders continue to advocate for solar energy investment in Nigeria, and this training is timely for both environmental sustainability and local job creation. Solar technology is gaining momentum in Nigeria due to its cost-effectiveness and reliability, especially in areas where access to the national grid is limited.

Speaking on the relevance of the program, NEXIN Enterprises’ spokesperson noted, “We’re not just training them for today, we’re preparing them for future green jobs and entrepreneurship. Renewable energy is the future, and these youths will be part of that future.”

The solar training also contributes to the larger goal of reducing unemployment, improving energy access, and boosting local capacity in technical fields. With increasing global attention on climate change and carbon reduction, Nigeria’s transition to clean energy is critical.

The Batch A training will run over several weeks, featuring both theory and practical sessions. According to the organizers, more batches will follow as the program expands.

Residents of Katsina and the wider public are encouraged to follow updates from the Katsina LGC Press Centre as the program progresses, with plans already underway to share stories and testimonials from participants.
