The Bauchi State Talent-Based Scholarship Program is aimed at supporting gifted secondary school students and out-of-school youths across the state. The initiative focuses on nurturing talents that can contribute to Nigeria’s future in agriculture, renewable energy, and economic development.
Speaking on the initiative, the Bauchi State Scholarship Board stated, “We are committed to ensuring no youth is left behind, especially those with the potential to make meaningful contributions to society.”
The scholarship program, which is set to begin in 2025, will involve several top public and private schools in Bauchi State. Among the participating public schools are Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Comprehensive Secondary School, Government Girls College, Bauchi, Federal Government Girls College, Bauchi, Jibrin Aminu Secondary School, Bauchi, and Government Technical School, Bauchi.
Private and international schools like ATAP International Academy, Esteemed Secondary School, League Intellect Academy, LYS Academy, Sunshine International Academy, and Fariah Comprehensive Secondary School have also confirmed their participation. Specialized institutions such as Sa’adu Zungur Secondary School and Jibril Aminu Secondary School are equally on board.
The program’s objective is to discover and support talented students through academic and vocational scholarships. It specifically targets sectors critical to Nigeria’s sustainable development, such as agriculture and renewable energy, which are becoming high-demand fields for youth empowerment and job creation.
A unique aspect of the program is the special category reserved for out-of-school youths. According to the organisers, “Through community outreach, we will identify young people who dropped out due to financial constraints or other socio-economic reasons.”
These individuals will be offered access to bridging education, vocational skills training in agriculture and renewable energy, and mentorship programs to help them reintegrate into productive learning environments.
The scholarship process will include Talent Identification Exams and Interviews, conducted across participating schools and communities. Beneficiaries will also attend Capacity Building Workshops on smart farming, solar technology, and small-scale business models.
Successful applicants will receive scholarships based on their performance, motivation, and community impact potential. The program also includes ongoing monitoring and mentorship, pairing selected students and dropouts with experienced mentors from academia and industry.
