The Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA) has officially launched an intensive internship program to equip young people with vital digital skills and real-world experience in humanitarian technology.

This initiative supports the broader goal of Borno State’s 25-Year Development Plan led by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and is part of efforts to transform the region into a digital innovation hub.

The program is centered around three key areas, including Python programming and web design, tech incubation, and field-based reporting experience. Each component is designed to offer students a blend of technical training and practical exposure to how technology can solve social and humanitarian challenges.

During the onboarding session, the Executive Secretary of BICTDA, Engr. Kabir Mohammed Wanori, FNSE, addressed the interns and highlighted the importance of building digital skills for both personal growth and public service.

“This program is part of our mission to build capacity, drive innovation, and ensure that Borno State becomes a leader in tech-based humanitarian solutions,” he said. He encouraged participants to fully engage with the tools and support available throughout the internship.

In the first training track, Mr. Abdulwarith Ibrahim Wala is leading sessions on Python programming, as well as foundational web development tools including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This module helps participants learn how to create responsive websites and develop problem-solving apps, laying the groundwork for future roles in software development and website design.

Another core aspect of the program is the entrepreneurship track led by Daniel Dibal and Ms. Amina Mustapha. Known as Founders Forge, this segment introduces students to startup principles, guiding them through the process of developing sustainable digital businesses. Using frameworks like the Business Model Canvas, participants are encouraged to explore solutions that can improve education, health, and other key sectors in Borno.

For a more practical experience, Mr. Shedrack Bata Joel is facilitating the RMS Field Experience. This module gives interns real-world exposure to how reporting systems are used in sectors like government and humanitarian response.

Through simulation and hands-on training, participants learn to collect, report, and analyze field data, essential for decision-making in emergency and development settings.
