The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has officially launched the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) for public schools across the state.
The new initiative is designed to boost agricultural education by equipping teachers with modern knowledge and practical skills that will enhance learning and promote sustainable farming practices. This comes as part of the state’s effort to upgrade the Basic Education curriculum and improve agricultural productivity in the long run.
A major part of the programme involves the orientation of 360 staff drawn from 120 public schools located across all 21 local government areas of Adamawa State. These selected teachers will receive hands-on training to help them deliver agricultural education effectively and meaningfully to their students.
The AETP is expected to bring several long-term benefits to both the education and agricultural sectors in Adamawa State. These benefits include improved teacher capacity to deliver agricultural education, enhanced student knowledge and practical skills in agriculture, and greater adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in communities.
Speaking at the programme in Mubi, the Desk Officer for Agricultural Education, Mal. Hussaini Musa, described the initiative as “a significant milestone” for the development of the education sector in Adamawa State. He stated, “This initiative empowers both teachers and students to drive agricultural innovation, development, and sustainability.”
In his remarks, Mal. Hussaini Musa also appreciated the role of state leadership in making the project possible. “Distinguished participants, esteemed guests, and colleagues, I am honoured to address you today at the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) in Mubi. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr. Murtala Umar Babayi, for their unwavering support and commitment to the advancement of basic education in Adamawa State,” he said.
“As we conclude this training, I encourage each of you to return to your respective schools and apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired. The future of agricultural development in Adamawa State rests on our collective dedication and action,” he added.
