Akwa Ibom Orders Biometric Registration for Keke, Minibus Operators

Akwa Ibom State has ordered all commercial tricycle (keke) and minibus operators to begin biometric registration and data updates starting March 16, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen transport regulation and revenue collection.

The directive was issued by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS). According to the notice, the biometric registration exercise will commence on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the operational office of the Ministry of Transport, located at the former AKTC premises along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo.

The ministry stated that the move is aimed at properly capturing the data of commercial transport operators across the state.

It added that “all operators of commercial tricycles and minibuses are hereby directed to comply with the biometric registration/update.”

Authorities also announced the introduction of a unified digital ticketing system through AkwaRemit.
