June 2, 2025 – The Ekiti State Government has launched the sale and distribution of subsidized agrochemicals to farmers across the state. This move is part of its broader plan to strengthen food security and support the agricultural sector.
The initiative was officially flagged off by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Ado-Ekiti. While speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, described it as a big step towards helping farmers improve food production in the state.
“This is indeed a good time for farmers in Ekiti State,” Mr. Boluwade said. “We have already commenced land clearing and provision of farm inputs at subsidized rates, and today, we are adding agrochemicals to the list. Subsidized fertilizers are also on the way. The government is also ready to offtake farmers’ produce, ensuring a guaranteed market for their efforts.”
Mr. Boluwade revealed that the government partnered with Saro Agrochemicals to supply original and effective agrochemical products. To ensure the support reaches only real farmers, beneficiaries must present their National Identification Number (NIN) and details of their farm location.
At the same event, Mr. Babatope Ojo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, thanked the Governor and the Commissioner for making the programme a reality. He advised farmers not to resell or misuse the agrochemicals, adding that proper use would increase farm productivity.
Hon. Babatunde Fawekun, Chairman of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, gave a goodwill message during the ceremony. He said the State Assembly was fully ready to work with the Governor to promote food production and better support for local farmers. He also encouraged other agriculture stakeholders to join in supporting the government’s plans.
Speaking for the farming community, Mr. Adebola Alagbada, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ekiti State Chapter, praised the initiative. “This is a beautiful development with numerous benefits,” he said. “Farmers now have access to genuine and original agrochemicals at subsidized prices, unlike the fake and ineffective ones we often encounter in the open market.”
