The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has opened applications for free international voluntary certifications for Nigerian food and agro-commodities exporters, including small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and food processors.
The opportunity offers certifications in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and FDA certification to help businesses strengthen export readiness, meet international standards and improve access to global markets.
According to the Council, the initiative is aimed at improving the quality and standards of non-oil exportable products by helping practitioners understand importing countries’ requirements and adopt best practices.
NEPC said food safety, hygiene and compliance with quality standards are important for businesses seeking to compete for market access and market share. The programme also supports preparations for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), particularly for Nigerian SMEs seeking to compete across Africa and globally.
The certifications are voluntary rather than mandatory, but NEPC said they can provide added trust and confidence in products by demonstrating compliance with quality standards. This is particularly relevant to value-added and processed food products seeking wider market access.
The Council is inviting eligible businesses that are ready to strengthen their products and processes for export. Applicants should ensure that their business and products meet the stated conditions before submitting an application.
The support is provided at no cost to selected beneficiaries under the Council’s implementation of free international voluntary certifications. Interested businesses are encouraged to apply before the stated deadline because applications will be subject to briefing and selection.
Selected businesses will receive support towards the certification process, helping them prepare their products for buyers.
Requirements
Applicants must possess an NEPC Registration Certificate and demonstrate export readiness. The product must have export potential, while its packaging and labelling should meet the required outlook. Possession of mandatory certifications such as NAFDAC and NIS will be an added advantage. Other export-related factors will also be considered.
Interested exporters and MSMEs will undergo a briefing and selection process before suitable applicants are chosen.
How to apply
Applicants should complete the application through https://bit.ly/NEPC2026certification or send their application to ceo@nepc.gov.ng, stating the company name, product or products, contact details and required certification, either HACCP or FDA.
