The Lagos State Government has officially opened registration for Lagos Agrithon 2025, a bold initiative aimed at transforming the future of agriculture and food systems in Nigeria. The call for entries began on 2nd June 2025 and will close on 27th June 2025, giving innovators, agritech startups, and entrepreneurs in the food sector the chance to pitch their enterprise, solutions and win a portion of N150 million naira.
“This is more than a competition,” said a spokesperson from the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture. “Lagos Agrithon is about finding real solutions for our food systems. It’s about innovation, collaboration, and transformation.”
Participants must meet specific eligibility criteria. They should be founders aged between 18 to 40 years, running a business that is not older than five years. The business must be registered with both the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA). Most importantly, projects must be based in Lagos or have a measurable impact on the agrifood systems in Lagos.
Applicants are encouraged to submit projects that align with any of the focus areas, including sustainable agriculture, food production, agri-fintech, precision farming, supply chain and logistics, food security, agri-data analytics, and value addition. These categories reflect the urgent need to modernize farming and food distribution with IoT, AI, and other high-tech agriculture tools.
The application process includes multiple stages: application submission, shortlisting, expert screening, mentorship, and a final Pitch Day. During the mentorship phase, selected participants will work closely with experienced agribusiness leaders and investors.
“We’re looking for originality, scalability, and practical solutions,” said one of the judges from the expert panel. “The winning ideas must show strong business models, address food insecurity, and demonstrate the potential for real market impact.”
The evaluation criteria will focus on innovation, feasibility, scalability, market viability, sustainability, and how clearly the ideas are communicated during the pitch. The final day will bring participants face-to-face with investors, policymakers, and stakeholders across the agribusiness value chain.
