29 May, 2025 – The Osun State University Medical Students Association (OSUMSA) has officially announced its 2025 essay competition, focusing on a highly relevant topic in today’s world: “Bridging Innovation and Healthcare: The Role of Technology in Modern Medicine.”
This competition offers a great opportunity for medical students to explore how digital health, artificial intelligence in healthcare, telemedicine, and other health tech tools are changing patient care. It highlights how medical technology is improving diagnosis, reducing costs, and increasing access to quality treatment in Nigeria and beyond.
According to the organisers, “Only members of OSUMSA are eligible to submit entries,” and all essays must be original, unpublished, and written in English. Plagiarism and overuse of AI tools will lead to automatic disqualification. Essays will be checked using AI and plagiarism checkers, and the acceptable limit is 30% for both.
Submissions must follow strict guidelines: Times New Roman, font size 12, double spacing, numbered pages, and no images. The required format is PDF, and each entry must include the student’s full government name, level, and matric number.
The top three winners will receive ₦100,000, ₦75,000, and ₦50,000 respectively. Winning essays will also be featured in OSUMSA’s official magazine, The Medithoscope.
Essays will be graded based on content, critical analysis, and coherence. Referencing must be consistent, using APA 7, Harvard, or Vancouver style.
