The Adewuyi Research Animal Foundation (ARA Foundation) has officially opened its January–February 2026 Research Grant Phase for Nigerian biomedical researchers, offering a ₦1,000,000 Research Animal Grant. This funding opportunity is targeted at supporting animal-based biomedical research within Nigerian tertiary institutions while encouraging ethical standards and high-quality scientific investigations across the country.
This grant is specifically structured to ease the cost burden of experimental research by providing soft grants in the form of free research animals rather than cash. Through this approach, the foundation aims to directly support practical, laboratory-based studies that contribute to medical knowledge, innovation, and improved health outcomes. The initiative reflects the foundation’s broader mission of strengthening biomedical research capacity in Nigeria.
6 GRANT PHASES ARE AVAILABLE YEARLY. PHASE 1: JANUARY–FEBRUARY || PHASE 2: MARCH–APRIL || PHASE 3: MAY–JUNE || PHASE 4: JULY–AUGUST || PHASE 5: SEPTEMBER–OCTOBER || PHASE 6: NOVEMBER–DECEMBER
A ₦1,000,000 worth of research grant in the form of research animals is available to be shared by 10 researchers on a bi-monthly basis. Currently, the foundation is offering grants in the form of free Albino Wistar rats and Swiss Albino mice for in vivo studies, making it suitable for a wide range of experimental biomedical research projects.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens and enrolled in any Nigerian tertiary institution. The grant is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate biomedical researchers across all biomedical disciplines. While ethical approval for animal research is an added advantage, preference will be given to studies using female animals, either mice or rats.
This grant is subject to increase in the near future as partners and sponsors continue to expand their support.
The ARA Foundation JAN–FEB grant phase IS NOW OPEN. Open: 1st of January, 2026. Close: 21st of February, 2026. Time to Application Close
