The Borno State Government has announced the recruitment of 1,000 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning across public secondary schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the state.

According to the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the newly recruited teachers will be deployed to the 139 functional secondary schools across Borno State. He explained that the recruitment exercise follows the directive of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, aimed at ensuring adequate staffing in newly constructed schools, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities.

Engr. Wakilbe further revealed that the Governor has granted executive approval for the automatic employment of eight teachers after his recent visit to Southern Borno, noting that they will be part of the 1,000 teachers to be recruited. He said, “This initiative is part of the governor’s commitment to strengthening education and ensuring that every school, especially in remote areas, has qualified teachers.”

The Commissioner expressed confidence in the Secondary School Education Board (SSEB) to conduct a credible and transparent recruitment process. He also mentioned that the ministry plans to recruit specialized teachers in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to boost skill-based learning across the state.

While calling on resilient and committed applicants to apply, Engr. Wakilbe stressed the need for teachers who are willing to serve in rural communities and contribute meaningfully to rebuilding the education sector after years of insurgency-related destruction.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Secondary School Education Board, Professor Yusufu Gana Balami, commended the state government for the opportunity and assured that the board would maintain transparency, fairness, and professionalism throughout the recruitment exercise.

In another development, the Borno State Government has approved over ₦28.6 million in support of Future Assured College, an institution established to cater for less privileged children. Engr. Wakilbe commended the founder of the college, Aisha Buhari, for her foresight and commitment to providing education for vulnerable children.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Bulama Kagu, and the Head of Future Assured College, Abdullahi Musa, both appreciated the state government for the support, describing it as a major boost to inclusive education in Borno State.
