The Niger State Government has announced plans to recruit 2,500 additional medical and health workers to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed the plan during the inauguration of twin porta cabin hospital facilities at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital, describing the recruitment as a major step toward improving access to quality medical services.
According to him, the additional intake will significantly boost manpower in public hospitals and primary healthcare centres.
“We will recruit an additional 2,500 medical personnel in the coming months,” the governor said, noting that the move will bring the total number of health workers employed under his administration to 5,000.
Bago explained that expanding the workforce is necessary to support ongoing upgrades in the health sector. He revealed that 20 Primary Health Care Centres have been renovated and upgraded to Level 2 status, while work on 110 others is at different stages of completion. He also stated that 22 general hospitals have been renovated to improve service delivery.
The governor said the state has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Government of Egypt and the Soviet Union to provide consultants who will manage the new facilities and train Nigerian medical personnel on modern equipment.
“This is a testament to the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for funds provided to sub-nationals by the federal government,” he said.
He added that the recruitment plan is aimed at enhancing healthcare capacity, reducing medical tourism, and ensuring residents receive affordable and intensive care within the state.
