Borno Gov Donates ₦50m at 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Launch

Borno State Governor, , has launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Week with a donation of ₦50 million on behalf of the Borno State Government, reaffirming the state’s support for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and families of fallen heroes.

The launch took place at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Hall, Government House, Maiduguri, and was performed by the Governor’s representative, Deputy Governor H.E. Umar Usman Kadafur. The event marked the official commencement of activities leading to the annual remembrance ceremony.

In remarks delivered on his behalf, Governor Zulum described the occasion as “a solemn and significant moment to honour the gallant men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.” He said their sacrifices should never be forgotten by the nation.

The Governor paid tribute to fallen heroes, serving personnel, and their families, acknowledging their courage, resilience, and selfless service. According to him, these sacrifices “remain the foundation upon which peace and freedom stand in Nigeria,” adding that the bravery of security personnel continues to inspire hope across the country.

Governor Zulum noted that the importance of Armed Forces Remembrance Day is particularly profound for , given the critical role played by the military and other security agencies in restoring peace and stability after years of insurgency. He said the state’s recovery journey has been strongly supported by the dedication of security forces on the ground.

He explained that the Emblem Appeal Week serves as a call to collective responsibility, urging individuals, corporate organisations, institutions, and well-meaning citizens to support wounded soldiers, veterans, widows, and dependants of fallen heroes. “This is a shared duty that requires the involvement of everyone,” he said.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to complementing the efforts of the Federal Government by supporting the welfare of security personnel and the Nigerian Legion through logistics, collaboration, and moral support aimed at sustaining peace in the state. He also encouraged residents to wear the remembrance emblem with pride as a symbol of honour, patriotism, and solidarity.

Earlier, the Chairman of the , Borno State Council, expressed deep appreciation to the Zulum-led administration for its continuous support to legionnaires. He highlighted key interventions, including the appointment of a legionnaire as State Coordinator of the Civilian Joint Task Force, the provision of a brand new Hilux vehicle, and the release of ₦20 million alongside food items during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The Legion Chairman appealed for further government support to improve the welfare of retired servicemen and women, widows, and orphans of fallen heroes, noting that many legionnaires face hardship due to old age, poor living conditions, and unemployment. He specifically requested the allocation of a permanent office accommodation for the Nigerian Legion in the state.

He also called on members of the Borno State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, and local government councils to donate generously to support legionnaires and their families. Commending the gallantry of the and the Civilian JTF in the fight against insurgency, he attributed successes against to the political will of the President and the strong backing of the Borno State Government.

The event concluded with prayers for continued peace, security, and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria. It was attended by representatives of Theatre Commander 7 Division, Garrison Commander Operation Hadin Kai, Commander 105 Composite Group Nigerian Air Force, Deputy Director SSS, Comptroller Nigerian Immigration Service, Controller of Correctional Service, Controller Nigerian Customs Service, representative of the Police Commissioner, representative of the Sector Commandant FRSC, members of the state security forum, Borno State Executive Council members, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants to the Governor.
