Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved ₦706,594,787.50 for scholarship payments to students within and outside the state. The announcement was made on 1st December 2025 by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarships Board, Dr. Bala Isa, during a press briefing in Maiduguri. Dr. Isa described the intervention as a further demonstration of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to education and human capital development.
He stated that the funds will support 300 orphans of fallen CJTF heroes, 206 students of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, and 34 students of Al-Ansar University.
He noted that the allocation also covers Borno students repatriated from Sudan, 104 nursing students’ professional examination fees, and upkeep allowances for 523 nursing students. The second tranche for 304 STEM postgraduate students was also included in the disbursement. “This financial intervention underscores His Excellency’s commitment to ensuring that no Borno student willing to pursue education is left behind,” Dr. Isa said.
He commended the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for his continued support to the Board and his role in enhancing student welfare across the state.
Reacting to the development, the National President of the National Union of Borno State Students, Comrade Umar Alhaji Gana, praised Governor Zulum for “not relenting in the disbursement of bursaries,” while also appreciating the Commissioner and acknowledging Dr. Bala Isa’s effective coordination of scholarship activities.
