The North-West Development Commission (NWDC) has announced a new opportunity for students in Nigeria. Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 NWDC Undergraduate and Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Scheme. This foreign scholarship program is part of the Commission’s plan to support development in the North-West region of Nigeria, and it’s a great chance for students to study abroad in top universities.
The NWDC was created by the NWDC Act of 2024, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It works under the Federal Ministry of Regional Development. One of its key goals is to improve education, infrastructure, and growth across states like Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
This high-value international scholarship is open for three levels of study: Undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD. It covers several high-demand fields such as Engineering, Medical Sciences, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Agriculture, and Education. These areas were chosen to help young people gain valuable skills that can benefit their communities and the country.
#Requirements
Documents needed include a CV, primary and secondary school certificates, local government and state indigene certificates, NYSC certificate, international passport, birth certificate, degree certificates, academic transcripts, and a motivation letter.
How to Apply
To apply, students must meet specific criteria. For undergraduates, applicants must have at least five O’Level credits, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. For the Master’s level, a Second Class Upper in a first degree is required. PhD applicants must have a Master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 4.00. The age limit is 35 for undergraduate and Master’s applicants, and 40 for PhD candidates. Applicants must also be indigenes of any of the North-West states.
The application process is completely free. Students do not need to pay any money to apply. Applications open on Monday, 5th May 2025, and will close on Sunday, 18th May 2025. All required documents must be submitted through the official NWDC scholarship portal at www.nwdc.gov.ng/scholarships.
