Cross River State Government has invited shortlisted beneficiaries under its Subsidized Tractor Acquisition Scheme to begin documentation and collection processes following the arrival of another batch of 54 mini tractors in the state.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development announced that the tractors were received as part of the state government’s push to strengthen mechanized farming and improve agricultural productivity across Cross River.

According to the ministry, each mini tractor comes with five farming implements including a plough, ridger, rotary tiller, seed planter and a one-ton trailer bucket to support farming activities for cooperatives and large-scale cultivation.

In a public service announcement signed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo KSM, the ministry directed all shortlisted beneficiary cooperatives yet to receive allocation to visit the Department of Agricultural Mechanization and Irrigation at the Ministry Headquarters in Calabar for documentation and collection directives.

The government also said farmers’ cooperatives that have not yet applied for the programme can still visit the department to obtain details about the application process and future allocations under the scheme.

Successful beneficiaries are expected to make a down payment of N1.1 million under the subsidized arrangement introduced by the state government to make access to tractors easier for farmers and cooperatives.

The ministry said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to making farming easier and more productive through improved access to mechanized agriculture.

Cross River State has continued to expand agricultural support programmes in recent months as part of efforts to increase food production, reduce manual farming and encourage cooperative-based farming systems across rural communities.

The tractor scheme is expected to help farmers improve cultivation speed, reduce operational costs and increase yields during the farming season.

For enquiries, the ministry asked interested applicants and beneficiaries to contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development through the official channels provided by the department.
