Cross River State has announced the commencement of another phase of coffee seedlings distribution to farmers as the state continues its push to become one of Nigeria’s leading coffee-producing hubs.
In a statement obtained by Nigeria Startup News (NSN) on Thursday, the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development said the newly received batch of highly subsidised coffee seedlings would be distributed to existing and prospective coffee farmers across the state.
According to the Ministry, the seedlings will be sold at ₦300 per seedling, while distribution will be carried out strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
Interested farmers were directed to make payment through the designated account provided by the Ministry before proceeding to their nearest Local Government Agricultural Office for documentation.
“After payment, farmers should immediately proceed with evidence of payment to the nearest Local Government Agricultural Office for documentation,” the statement said.
The Ministry also advised farmers who had previously paid for seedlings but were yet to receive them to visit their Local Government Agricultural Office for documentation and reconciliation.
Distribution of the coffee seedlings is expected to commence in the first week of June 2026 across all Local Government Council Areas in the state.
Farmers who complete the clearance process are expected to present their “Authority to Collect” slip before taking delivery of the seedlings.
The Ministry noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the coffee value chain and position Cross River as a major coffee-producing state in Nigeria.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development will commence the full market system development program for the coffee value chain once seedling distribution is concluded,” the statement added.
It further declared that, “Cross River is now a full-fledged COFFEE PRODUCING STATE. Together, let us promote and sustain the coffee value chain in Cross River State.”
The statement was signed by Hon. Johnson A. Ebokpo KSM, Commissioner, Office of the Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development.
