Under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, Delta State is making major progress in agriculture with a smart and focused move. The Delta State Commodities Cooperative, known as DELCOM COOP, is helping to transform the rural economy through oil palm farming. This project supports youth empowerment, job creation, and sustainable farming in line with the state’s MORE Agenda.

DELCOM COOP is not just another government programme. It is a well-planned platform created to help farmers and agribusinesses grow. The main target is the oil palm sector.

The government is forming cooperative clusters that allow smallholder farmers and youth to join hands and work together. This system helps manage land better and encourages data-driven decisions.

Delta once had a strong oil palm industry, and this initiative is bringing it back to life. By using the Land Bank to find good farmland, the government can give land to farmers in a fair and open way. The state also provides improved oil palm seedlings, technical training, and encourages private investors to set up processing factories. These actions help increase oil palm production and boost agro-based industries.

The Agricultural Land Bank is a big part of the plan. It is a system that lists available farming land across the state. Farmers and cooperatives can now get land without stress, which also cuts down land disputes. For agribusiness investors, the Land Bank makes it easier to find land for large-scale farming.

DELCOM COOP collects and uses important agric data. This includes land use, crop yields, and information about farmers. With this data, the government can plan better policies and track the success of different projects. This makes agriculture more efficient and helps target job creation efforts.

Benefits for Deltans

The DELCOM COOP programme is expected to create jobs, boost local food supply, and increase export potential. Farmers get access to support services, loans, and markets. Most importantly, everything is done transparently, which builds trust and attracts serious investors into Delta’s agriculture sector.
