Delta State First Lady and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has partnered with Fidelity Bank Plc to empower 500 market women across the state with cash grants and business support tools under the bank’s “Give Her Power” initiative.

The empowerment programme, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, formed part of Fidelity Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at supporting women-led businesses and improving livelihoods in local communities.

Under the intervention, 400 women received cash grants, while another 100 beneficiaries got business equipment including sewing machines and grinding machines to support their trade and small-scale businesses.

Fidelity Bank initially committed N20 million to the programme through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme. However, the Delta State First Lady announced an additional N20 million contribution from the You Matter Charity Foundation, bringing the total cash support to N40 million.

With the additional funding, each of the 400 cash beneficiaries received N100,000 instead of the earlier planned N50,000.

Speaking during the event, Deaconess Oborevwori described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to restore hope, strengthen families and improve economic inclusion for women in Delta State.

“Today, we are here to witness the generosity of Fidelity Bank Plc as they put smiles on the faces of 500 women through its collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation,” she said.

“This event is not only about distribution; it is about transformation, restoring hope, strengthening families, and building a more inclusive and prosperous society, one woman at a time.”

She noted that women remain central to economic growth and community development, stressing that empowering women directly impacts families and local economies.

The Delta First Lady also commended Fidelity Bank for investing in grassroots women empowerment and supporting community development initiatives across the state.

According to her, partnerships between private sector organisations and social impact foundations can drive sustainable economic support for vulnerable groups, especially women in informal businesses.

“Use these resources wisely to expand your businesses, support your families, and contribute meaningfully to your communities,” she told beneficiaries.

Executive Director, South, Fidelity Bank Plc, Pamela Shodipo, said the programme reflects the bank’s commitment to community-focused development through its CSR platform.

She explained that the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme allows staff members of the bank across different regions to identify and support impactful community projects.

According to her, supporting women-owned businesses creates wider economic benefits for families and communities.

Shodipo also commended the Delta State First Lady for ensuring the intervention reached women who genuinely needed support.

Also speaking at the event, Regional Bank Head, Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, encouraged the beneficiaries to maintain proper saving culture, improve customer relations and pay attention to product packaging to help grow sustainable businesses.

One of the beneficiaries, Joy Osegbuwa, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and the You Matter Charity Foundation for the support, describing the intervention as timely for market women facing rising business and living costs.

The “Give Her Power” initiative adds to the growing number of women-focused empowerment programmes being implemented by corporate organisations and foundations across Nigeria to support small businesses and financial inclusion at the grassroots level.
