The Edo State Government has announced plans to empower 5,000 women as First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, visits the state on October 15, 2026.

According to an event notice, the empowerment exercise will be performed by Oluremi Tinubu during a ceremony scheduled for 9am at Garrick Memorial, Ekhuan Road, Benin City.

The event is expected to bring attention to women’s economic empowerment in Edo State, with the initiative forming part of activities planned alongside commissioning of 50 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.

Oluremi Tinubu, who chairs the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has led women-focused economic empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting businesses.

The Edo event will be hosted by Governor Monday Okpebholo, according to the notice.

The empowerment is coming as the state expands initiatives focused on transportation, economic opportunities women’s participation in development.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Garrick Memorial, Ekhuan Road, Benin City, beginning at 9am.
