The Presidency is exploring a partnership between its Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (TVEE) office and the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security to address insecurity through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
Dr Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on TVEE, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka A. Famadewa (retd.), Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security.
The discussions focused on economic empowerment, employability and sustainable livelihoods to complement conventional security operations.
Arogundade said the collaboration would strengthen cooperation between both offices, empower citizens and create sustainable opportunities.
She said the initiative aimed to steer people away from crime.
The aides acknowledged the importance of combining military and law enforcement operations with education, skills development and economic inclusion, particularly for vulnerable youths.
The collaboration would seek to reduce unemployed and economically disadvantaged young people’s vulnerability to recruitment by criminal networks exploiting poverty, limited opportunities and social exclusion.
By linking vocational education with homeland security objectives, the partnership is expected to support community resilience, social stability and alternatives to criminal activity.
Famadewa stressed the need for a holistic approach to insecurity that addresses socioeconomic causes alongside other security measures.
His office also focuses on coordinated intelligence and surveillance, stronger border security, identifying security threats, and procedures for reporting and responding to crises.
The collaboration reflects the administration’s effort to connect education, economic opportunities and national security. However, the meeting did not announce an application portal, registration dates, eligibility criteria or a launch date.
