The Federal Government has begun handing over start-up kits to selected beneficiaries of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, including trainees in solar photovoltaic (PV) installation and maintenance.
The equipment is intended to help graduates use their skills, establish small businesses and earn a living after completing their training.
The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) oversees the initiative, which works with accredited training centres to provide practical skills in trades linked to employment and entrepreneurship. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is among its partners.
A recent handover of solar PV installation and maintenance kits to representatives of a training centre indicates that distribution is reaching some approved locations. The centre said the kits would be passed on to eligible trainees.
However, this does not mean every TVET participant has received a kit or that all trades are covered. Starter-pack support is intended for eligible trainees in designated trades, and arrangements may differ between centres and cohorts.
The TVET initiative covers practical fields such as electrical installation, welding, computer hardware maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and solar PV installation. The equipment is designed to help beneficiaries move from training into self-employment.
Trainees should confirm their eligibility and collection arrangements with their approved centres rather than assume kits are immediately available to everyone.
How to check and collect your kit
Trainees who completed the relevant training should contact their centre to confirm whether solar PV installation is covered for their cohort and whether they are listed for a kit, where applicable. Follow official collection instructions and acknowledge receipt only after the equipment has physically been handed over. Do not pay anyone to secure a starter kit through unofficial channels.
