Emerging writers and storytellers from Northern Nigeria can apply for the Arewa Creative Writing and Advocacy Fellowship (ACWAF), a programme designed to strengthen creative storytelling and advocacy skills.
The fellowship is organised by the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative with support from the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF). The cohort will focus on participants from Northern Nigeria who are available for the in-person activities in Kano State.
The six-to-eight-week hybrid programme will train participants in creative nonfiction, civic storytelling, policy framing, editorial ethics, fact-checking and multimedia narrative techniques.
Participants will explore how storytelling can support advocacy on governance, democracy, elections, voter rights and youth rights. The programme is intended to help emerging creatives produce ethical, accurate, fact-checked and impactful stories that can contribute to social change.
Selected fellows will receive one-on-one mentorship, editorial and publication support, data stipends and networking opportunities. The programme will also include a capstone dissemination component, giving participants an opportunity to share the work developed during the fellowship.
Applicants should be emerging writers, storytellers or spoken word artists from Northern Nigeria and must be available for the physical component in Kano State. The organisers have not stated that the opportunity is open to applicants from other regions.
