The Federal Government has denied directing unemployed Nigerians to visit offices of the National Directorate of Employment to register for a three-week nationwide registration exercise.

The denial followed the circulation of a message on social media claiming that unemployed persons had been directed to proceed to NDE offices for the exercise.
In a statement, the NDE said the message did not originate from the agency, despite containing purported addresses and telephone numbers of its state offices.
The Directorate therefore advised Nigerians to disregard the message, stressing that there was no official NDE directive or announcement from the agency at present authorising the three-week registration exercise.
The agency also warned members of the public against providing personal information, documents, money or any form of payment to anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of the NDE in connection with the exercise.
According to the NDE, any official registration exercise, recruitment programme, skills acquisition programme or other employment intervention will be communicated through its authorised channels and official announcements.
The agency urged members of the public to verify employment-related information before acting on it or sharing it with others.
The statement was signed by Elizabeth O. Omatsola, Director, Rural Employment Promotion, for the Director-General.
The NDE said it remained committed to promoting employment and creating opportunities for unemployed Nigerians through its various programmes and interventions.
It added that the Directorate would continue to communicate verified information to the public through its authorised channels.
The warning comes amid the rapid spread of employment and recruitment messages online, where fake registration notices can attract people seeking jobs or government support.
The NDE did not announce a replacement date for the exercise and did not provide any indication that the circulating registration notice would be authorised later.
Members of the public were therefore advised to rely on official NDE announcements when seeking information about registration, recruitment, skills acquisition or other employment opportunities.
The Directorate specifically cautioned Nigerians to avoid sharing sensitive documents or making payments based on unverified messages circulating online.
