The Federal Government has officially opened a modern smart Divisional Police Station in Katampe, Mpape, Abuja. This development is aimed at improving internal security and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area. The commissioning was carried out by the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia.
This newly completed smart police station, built by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), is a response to the growing demand for better police infrastructure in fast-developing communities like Mpape. With the steady population growth in the area, the need for a well-equipped and responsive law enforcement facility had become urgent. Now, the people of Mpape have a secure and modern structure designed to support day-to-day police operations and community relations.
The Honourable Minister described the project as a major achievement in Nigeria’s broader effort to strengthen the country’s internal security system. He highlighted that this police station is part of the Federal Government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on security sector reforms and enhancing public safety.
The new Divisional Police Station includes advanced features that make it a smart facility. It is equipped with CCTV surveillance for 24/7 monitoring, a perimeter fence for security, solar power to ensure uninterrupted electricity, and overhead water tanks for constant water supply.
These features are designed to make the station fully functional regardless of external disruptions. Such infrastructure contributes to the vision of a more responsive and efficient police system in Nigeria.
According to the Minister, this station is not just a building; it represents a new way of delivering security services. It gives police officers a professional working environment and promotes better engagement with residents. By providing these kinds of smart police stations across Nigeria, the government is laying the foundation for stronger law enforcement and improved public trust.
Senator Gaidam called on officers who will be working at the station to maintain the highest standards of conduct. He stressed the importance of fairness, professionalism, and respect for human rights in their daily operations. He reminded them that they are the face of law and order in Mpape and should always carry themselves with integrity.
The Minister also spoke to the people of Mpape, saying that the new police station belongs to the community. He encouraged residents to support the officers, cooperate with law enforcement, and protect the facility. Community policing, he noted, works best when citizens and the police work hand in hand.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, also spoke at the event. He expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for his strong leadership and consistent support of police reforms. Sheidu noted that the success of this project shows what can happen when the government is focused on its goals and serious about security sector improvement.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Victor Olaiya, received the facility on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. He said the modern police station will inspire officers to do their jobs with pride. He urged them to take good care of the station and its equipment, treating it as a symbol of their responsibility to protect and serve.
Also present at the event was the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu. He explained that the new station is part of a wider plan to use sustainable energy solutions across government facilities. According to him, the partnership between the REA and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund is focused on providing reliable, clean, and affordable power to support smart police infrastructure throughout the country.
Aliyu pointed out that this collaboration is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last year. The Mpape project marks the first step in rolling out energy-efficient, smart security infrastructure across Nigeria. By leveraging solar energy, the project reduces reliance on unstable power sources and ensures that the station can operate effectively at all times.
With this smart station in place, Mpape residents can look forward to quicker response times, better police-community engagement, and a stronger sense of safety. The government also plans to build similar smart stations across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, bringing modern policing closer to more people and making sure that law and order are strengthened nationwide.
