The Federal Government has clarified how beneficiaries are selected for its ₦50,000 relief support under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), warning that no application, payment or personal connection can secure a place on the list.

In a notice published on November 6, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction said selection is automated. Names are drawn from the National Social Register and verified national identity records, based on poverty and vulnerability criteria.

The intervention covers all six geopolitical zones. However, not every Nigerian will receive the grant, and having a bank account does not automatically qualify anyone.

Selected beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of five authorised providers: ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint, with acceptance instructions.

Each selected person will receive ₦50,000 as a grant, not a loan. The money is credited directly without deductions after consent. Notifications and payments are processed in batches, so beneficiaries may not receive messages at the same time.

The ministry warned against fraudsters offering to add names, fast-track payments or provide registration links. It said no agent or official can influence selection.

How to get selected

There is no application form or registration link for NERSI. Nigerians cannot apply directly or pay to be included. Selection depends on existing social and identity records and vulnerability criteria.

Beware of anyone requesting money or personal details. If selected, follow instructions in an official SMS from an approved provider.

Never disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN), One-Time Password (OTP) or Bank Verification Number (BVN). For enquiries, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
