28 May 2025 – In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to build a strong Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in Nigeria, a new Presidential Committee has been launched. This move aims to improve how the government handles digital identity, online payments, and data sharing, helping the country become more advanced in the digital world.

The committee was created through a joint effort between the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Its main job is to make sure Nigeria’s digital systems—like national ID, secure online payments, and data exchange—work together across different sectors.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, spoke on behalf of the SGF. He said, “We are focused on turning Nigeria’s digital potential into something that really benefits the public.” He explained that secure digital identity and payment systems are key for building trust, increasing financial inclusion, and creating more job and business opportunities.

He also pointed out that a connected data system can lead to better innovation, smarter decisions, and faster government services. “Data is at the heart of development,” he added.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), talked about the need for Digital Public Trust. He said the government and private sector must work together to build strong and modern digital tools. “Data is the new economic currency,” he said, highlighting the shift towards data-driven development.
