The Federal Government has explained what Nigerians not selected for its ₦50,000 relief should do, saying payments under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) are being made in phases.

The clarification follows reports of customers checking status through platforms and receiving “You are currently not selected to receive this relief support.”

According to the programme’s frequently asked questions, providers are contacting beneficiaries in batches. Some selected recipients may therefore receive notifications later.

However, the government stressed that the intervention supports a limited number of households at a time. A “NOT SELECTED” message does not guarantee inclusion in a future batch.

NERSI is coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Beneficiaries are selected using the National Social Register and identity records. Individuals cannot apply or pay to secure a place.

The approved providers are ALAT by Wema, MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. Selected beneficiaries receive an SMS with instructions to accept the grant before the money is credited to their mobile wallets.

The government warned that nobody can add names to the list or speed up payment for a fee. Nigerians should never share their Personal Identification Number (PIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN) or one-time password (OTP).

How to check your status

Dial your payment provider’s USSD code and select the eligibility-check option. For assistance, call the NERSI hotline on 0700-022-2222.
