The Federal Government is set to launch the Northern Corridor Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicle Programme in Kano on Thursday as part of efforts to expand clean and affordable transportation across Northern Nigeria.
The initiative, being driven by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, is expected to deepen the adoption of alternative fuel systems while reducing reliance on petrol and diesel transportation.
Head of Brand and Communications for the programme, Onyekachi Eke, disclosed this ahead of the official launch in Kano.
According to her, the programme supports the Federal Government’s broader plan to promote cleaner energy, lower transportation costs and strengthen sustainable mobility across the country.
She said Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected at the launch alongside Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda.
Eke explained that the event would bring together key stakeholders from government, the transport sector and private companies involved in clean energy mobility.
She added that activities scheduled for the launch include demonstrations of CNG and EV technologies already being deployed in parts of Nigeria, as well as the commissioning of new infrastructure and mobility assets.
“The launch will also provide an opportunity for collaboration and strategic discussions around the future of clean transportation in Nigeria,” she said.
The Northern Corridor launch is expected to strengthen the Federal Government’s push towards a cleaner, cheaper and more sustainable transport system nationwide.
