The Federal Government says eligible beneficiaries under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) will receive ₦50,000 monthly to support vulnerable households.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the intervention on Friday, describing it as a shock-responsive cash transfer programme.

Doro said the monthly support would be reviewed regularly in response to changes in living costs. Beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustment.

The ministry is working with five licensed digital financial service providers: ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. Selected beneficiaries will receive a message requesting consent. Once they accept, the ₦50,000 is credited to their bank account or mobile wallet.

The official NERSI portal says the payment is a grant, not a loan, and recipients do not have to repay it. The money can be withdrawn through the provider’s channels or spent from the wallet.

However, the monthly wording does not specify how many months each beneficiary will receive support. Payments are being made in phases, and not every Nigerian is automatically eligible. Selection is based on verified identity records and the National Social Register.

How to get paid

There is no public application form or registration portal. Beneficiaries are selected by the programme and contacted by an approved provider via SMS. Keep your registered phone number active and follow the consent instructions in a genuine notification. Do not pay agents or share your PIN, one-time password (OTP) or Bank Verification Number (BVN). For assistance, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
