The Federal University of Technology Owerri has officially announced the commencement of its Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise for the 2026/2027 academic session. The university released detailed guidelines covering eligibility requirements, registration procedures, application deadlines, and department-specific cut-off marks for prospective undergraduate students.
According to the announcement issued by the Office of the Registrar on May 22, 2026, registration for the screening exercise begins immediately and will close on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Who Can Apply?
FUTO stated that candidates who applied for 2026 undergraduate admission through JAMB and selected the institution as their first-choice university are eligible to participate in the screening exercise.
Candidates who did not initially choose FUTO as first choice may also apply, provided they scored at least 150 in the 2026 UTME and complete a change of institution to FUTO on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) before July 31, 2026.
The university also announced that only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, can apply for admission.
Minimum UTME Score Requirement
FUTO fixed the general minimum UTME score for application at 150, although some competitive programmes require higher scores.
Courses Requiring 150
Several programmes across multiple schools require a minimum JAMB score of 150 for application.
These include courses in:
- Agriculture and Agricultural Technology
- Biological Sciences
- Logistics and Innovation Technology
- Environmental Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Health Technology
- Some Engineering programmes
Specific courses include Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology, Statistics, Physics, Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Environmental Health Science among others.
Courses Requiring 170
Candidates seeking admission into more competitive programmes must score at least 170 in UTME.
These programmes include:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Cyber Security Science
- Information Technology
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Petroleum Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Architecture
- Optometry
- Radiography
- Public Health Technology
MBBS Requires 200
The university placed the highest cut-off mark on its MBBS programme under the College of Medicine.
Candidates applying for Medicine and Surgery must score a minimum of 200 in UTME.
In addition, MBBS applicants must possess credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in one sitting.
O’Level Requirements
FUTO explained that applicants must possess at least five O’Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics alongside three other relevant subjects related to their chosen course of study.
The credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings for most programmes.
The institution also stressed that candidates must upload their O’Level results on JAMB CAPS not later than August 17, 2026.
According to the university, only candidates who successfully upload their results before the deadline will be considered for admission.
Direct Entry Requirements
For Direct Entry candidates, FUTO said applicants must possess relevant A’Level qualifications, OND, HND, or first degrees related to their intended course of study.
The university further instructed Direct Entry applicants to ensure their certificates are verified by the awarding institution through JAMB CAPS.
Academic transcripts must also reach the Registrar of FUTO on or before August 17, 2026.
Nature of the Screening
The university clarified that the screening exercise will be based strictly on verified JAMB scores and uploaded O’Level results on JAMB CAPS.
No physical aptitude test or examination was mentioned in the advertisement.
Registration Fee and Application Process
Eligible candidates are required to pay a non-refundable screening fee of ₦2,000.
Applicants are expected to:
- Visit the FUTO undergraduate portal portal.futo.edu.ng/#undergraduate
- Generate a Remita invoice using their JAMB registration number
- Make payment online or through participating banks
- Return to the portal to complete the application form
- Submit the application and print the acknowledgement slip
FUTO advised candidates to carefully ensure that all information supplied during registration matches the details on their JAMB CAPS profile.
Important Warning to Applicants
The institution warned that candidates whose course selection on JAMB CAPS differs from the course selected during Post-UTME registration will not be considered for admission.
