Gombe State has partnered with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to launch a specialised training programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics for 100 youths, marking a strategic push to deepen digital skills and innovation within the state.

The initiative, implemented by the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission, commenced on Monday as part of the administration’s broader plan to reposition the state’s economy through technology-driven human capital development. The programme targets carefully selected participants, equipping them with practical knowledge required in an increasingly data-driven global economy.

Speaking at the flag-off, GOSIDEC Director General, Dr. Al-Amin Barambu, said the programme reflects a deliberate shift from passive technology use to active innovation and solution-building. “Through the support of His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, we are moving beyond the consumption of technology to the actual creation and analysis of data-driven solutions,” he stated.

He emphasised that the training is designed to produce job creators rather than job seekers, urging participants to maximise the opportunity. “The laptops provided are not just gifts; they are workstations. We expect you to leverage these tools to build startups, solve local problems, and sustain yourselves through digital entrepreneurship,” Barambu added.

As part of its support, NCDMB provided high-performance laptops, learning materials and stipends to participants, ensuring they are adequately equipped throughout the programme.

The collaboration signals Gombe State’s intent to build a pipeline of skilled professionals, including data scientists and tech entrepreneurs, aligning with its long-term strategy to participate more actively in Nigeria’s digital economy.
