The Gombe State Government has unveiled a ₦1.2 billion waste-to-wealth initiative following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blumen Technologies Ltd to operationalise a plastics recycling and injection moulding facility under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
The facility, located at one of the state’s designated dump sites, is expected to convert plastic and organic waste into reusable plastic products and organic fertiliser, positioning the state to advance a circular economy model while addressing environmental challenges. The project is also targeted at unlocking economic value from waste and creating new employment opportunities.
Speaking on the development, Mohammed Bello Abubakar Kumo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water, Environment & Forest Resources, said the partnership is structured to bring in the required technical capacity to fully operationalise the plant. “Blumen Technologies will provide the technical expertise needed to ensure that the facility runs efficiently and delivers on its objectives,” he said.
The agreement, structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will run for 15 years and aligns with the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s broader focus on sustainable economic development. Operations are expected to commence within three months.
The MoU was signed by Kumo and Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, on behalf of the state, while Blumen Technologies Ltd was represented by its Managing Director, Dr. Yunusa M. Garba, and Director, Fu’ad Ahmad Maqary.
The arrangement was facilitated by the Gombe State Investment Promotion Agency, led by Executive Secretary Faruk Daudu, as part of efforts to attract strategic investments into sustainability-driven sectors.
