Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a significant increase in the monthly state allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state. Effective August 1, 2025, corps members will now receive N20,000 monthly, up from the current N5,000.
The announcement was made during Day Two of the State Delivery Meeting held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
Governor Eno explained that the new allowance is intended to support the Federal Government’s N77,000 monthly payment to corps members, helping them meet their living expenses while serving.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the Governor stated, highlighting his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, education, and community development.
This move comes shortly after the Governor approved the full reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area. The upgrade is part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare and experience of corps members during their service year.
The NYSC, which began in 1973, is a compulsory one-year national service program for Nigerian graduates under 30. It was established to promote national integration, development, and unity by assigning young Nigerians to serve in states different from their origin, particularly in rural development, healthcare, agriculture, and education.
Akwa Ibom remains one of the most corps-friendly states, known for its peaceful environment and consistent support for NYSC members.
Governor Eno’s decision is seen as a step toward improving youth welfare, job support, and public service motivation in the state, aligning with high-value keywords like “youth empowerment,” “government support,” and “graduate jobs in Nigeria.”
