A member of the House of Representatives, Akarachi Amadi, has executed a large-scale empowerment programme targeting residents of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Federal Constituency in Imo State, distributing cash and items valued at over ₦200 million to more than 10,000 beneficiaries.

The intervention, which covered 63 autonomous communities, saw the allocation of vehicles, agricultural equipment, business tools and financial grants to traders, farmers, youths, women and community leaders. Items distributed included minibuses, Sienna vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, tractors, sewing and grinding machines, generators, deep freezers, fertilisers, food items, as well as over 60 electricity transformers.

Amadi said the programme was structured based on direct engagement with constituents and designed to address pressing economic needs while supporting national objectives around food security and enterprise development.

“Leadership, at its core, is about people. It is about the trust you place in someone and the responsibility that comes with it. What you see here today reflects those conversations we had when I came seeking your votes. Every item is intentional. Every item is tied to a real need as you have requested,” he stated.

Distribution was carried out in phases, with beneficiaries receiving assets aligned with their economic activities. Vehicles were allocated for commercial transport operations, while artisans and small business owners received equipment to scale production. Farmers were supported with tractors and fertilisers to enhance productivity, alongside targeted cash grants for traders and entrepreneurs.

The Imo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Austin Onyedebelu, described the initiative as a clear example of responsive and people-centred governance.

“I have looked around, starting from farm implements to transportation equipment, transformers, rice, fertilisers and grinders. I cannot even mention all I have seen here today,” he said.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, noted that the programme reflects sustained commitment to grassroots engagement, youth empowerment and community development.

Beneficiaries acknowledged the scale of the intervention but emphasised the need for continuity, proper maintenance of distributed assets and improved market access to ensure long-term impact. They also highlighted that infrastructure components such as electricity transformers could deliver broader community benefits by improving power supply and enabling local economic activities.
