The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS) has addressed reports claiming a convicted inmate processed an international passport while in custody. According to a press release dated 21 June 2025, the Service clarified that the misconduct was discovered through the Nigeria Immigration Service’s automated passport system.

“This particularly speaks to inter-agency collaboration and cooperation,” the NCOS stated, noting that the violation was identified during routine checks supported by the latest digital reforms in passport processing.

The act was found to breach operational procedures. As a result, disciplinary measures were swiftly applied. “Two correctional personnel involved in the matter have been suspended by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB),” the statement confirmed.
