The Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES) at the University of Port Harcourt has officially announced the commencement of its admission process for the Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to the announcement, “admission is open for Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT).”
The PGDPT programme is designed for candidates from oil and gas producing communities, as well as individuals aiming to pursue a career in the petroleum and energy industry.
The course supports the vision of sustainable development and offers specialized training. It is a tuition-paying programme and admitted candidates are expected to cover their tuition fees or secure sponsorship.
However, the institute confirmed that, “successfully admitted candidates from the OBAGI OIL FIELDS Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT) (including Akabuka, Amah, Egi Clan, Idu Obosiukwu, Obagi, Obite, Ogbogu, Rumuekpe, Ekpeye Clan and Oboburu) have guaranteed full sponsorship.”
The duration of the programme is one year and runs full-time for twelve calendar months. In terms of programme value, IPES stated that it provides “internship and employment opportunities,” “field visits and hands-on training with industry experts,” and “state-of-the-art software and industry case studies.”
Requirements:
Admission is open to candidates who meet the following requirements:
i. Bachelor’s degree from an NUC accredited or internationally recognized Engineering programme with a minimum of second-class lower division
ii. Post HND (Bachelor’s degree) from NUC accredited or internationally recognized Engineering programme with a minimum of second-class lower division is also acceptable
iii. Bachelor’s degree from an NUC accredited or internationally recognized physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics including Science Laboratory Technology (SLT)) programme with second-class lower division
iv. Candidate must have completed NYSC
