Kaduna State has flagged off a large-scale teacher capacity-building initiative targeting 8,102 educators across its 23 local government areas, as part of efforts to strengthen basic education delivery.

Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Senator Uba Sani at the event organised by the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), described education as a central pillar of the administration’s human capital development agenda. She noted that quality education is directly tied to the competence and motivation of teachers, referring to them as “moulders of minds” whose role remains critical in shaping future generations.

According to her, the Teacher Professional Development Programme is designed as a strategic intervention to improve classroom delivery, deepen pedagogical skills, and enhance overall learning outcomes in public schools across the state.

Dr. Balarabe also outlined measures introduced by the government to improve teacher welfare and career progression. These include the Annual Kaduna Best Teacher of the Year Award with cash prizes and scholarships, implementation of the national minimum wage for primary school teachers, and the clearance of promotion backlogs spanning 2021 to 2024. She added that ₦548 million has been released for NUT Endwell benefits, alongside approval for the recruitment of 10,000 teachers to address staffing gaps.

In his remarks, KADSUBEB Executive Chairman, Malam Mubarak Mohammed, said the programme’s success would not be judged solely by the number of teachers trained, but by its impact on student learning outcomes, noting that the ultimate goal is to empower children through improved education delivery.
