May 28, 2025 – In a major move to ease the financial burden on parents and promote educational access, the Kaduna State Government has approved the sponsorship of 5,000 students for the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), including both NECO and WAEC. This was announced on 28th May, 2025, by the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA).

Governor Uba Sani, who has been consistent in his education reform drive, is backing this initiative as part of his administration’s efforts to improve access to quality education. According to the state, the goal is not just to fund exam fees, but to give hope to families struggling with rising education costs.

The selection of these candidates is not random. Students who performed well in the 2024 SSII Mock Examinations conducted by KSSQAA will be prioritised. Other criteria will also be used to ensure that the most deserving students are chosen for the opportunity.

Professor Usman Abubakar Zaria, the Director-General of KSSQAA, praised the Governor’s action. “This decision by His Excellency is both timely and strategic,” he said. “It is not just about paying examination fees – it is about reassuring hope, reducing dropout rates, curbing social vices, and enhancing academic performance. Most importantly, it underscores the Governor’s resolve to democratize access to education and promote human capital development across Kaduna State.”

This sponsorship will support students preparing for high-value examinations, including those from low-income families and orphans. It also includes Hybrid CBT candidates, who are part of a growing digital learning system within the state.

In 2024, the state already made waves by sponsoring 136,742 students for exams like the JSCE and internal mock tests. In 2025, the number has jumped to 175,752 students benefiting from various exam-related support.

This government initiative supports educational development in Nigeria and increases opportunities for students in public schools, helping families avoid the burden of high WAEC and NECO fees. For parents searching for financial support for school exams or news on free exam sponsorship in Nigeria, this policy is a big relief.

The Kaduna State education sector continues to experience growth and innovation under the administration of Governor Uba Sani.
