June 18, 2025 – Katsina Local Government is set to roll out a youth empowerment initiative in collaboration with the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM). The new programme aims to equip young people with practical skills in digital tools, entrepreneurship, and creative design to address unemployment and promote self-reliance.
As part of the preparations, a delegation led by Mallam Ismail Tukur Taury, Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, visited KSITM for a strategic meeting with the Rector, Dr. Musa Zayyad, and the management team. The visit focused on designing a programme tailored to the economic needs of the community.
The initiative is being driven by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Youth Affairs. It is designed to empower the youth with relevant tech and business skills that will help them secure employment or start their own ventures.
“Our mission is clear, to equip our youth with relevant, in-demand skills that will empower them to take charge of their future,” said Mallam Taury. “Under the leadership of Hon. Isah Miqdad AD-Saude, we are prioritizing skills development as a pathway to local prosperity and long-term social stability.”
Key areas of training will include creative design, graphics, multimedia, web development, digital tools, entrepreneurship, business leadership, research, and analytical skills. These are expected to meet the demands of the job market while encouraging innovation and small business creation.
Dr. Musa Zayyad, Rector of KSITM, welcomed the initiative and praised the local government’s focus on youth empowerment. “We are ready to support this programme fully. Our goal is to serve as a hub for transformative learning and skill acquisition,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of partnerships in tackling youth development issues in Nigeria.
The programme is expected to have a long-term impact on the economy by helping more youths build careers in tech and business. With plans already in motion, this initiative is positioned as a model for grassroots development across Katsina State.
