Hundreds of women in Kebbi State have completed various skills acquisition programmes organised by the Nasara Foundation, in a move aimed at strengthening economic inclusion and grassroots development across the state.

The beneficiaries, drawn from Jega and Aliero Local Government Areas, graduated at a ceremony held in Aliero, where the First Lady, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, was represented by the foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Balkisu Nasir. She emphasised the role of collaboration in sustaining empowerment initiatives and driving long-term social impact.

“We must continue to work together, citizens, political leaders, and stakeholders, to advance women’s and youth empowerment, while also extending support to the less privileged in our society,” she said.

She urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the starter packs distributed during the programme, warning against misuse or resale. According to her, the resources provided are intended to serve as tools for financial independence and improved livelihoods.

“Do not sell the items given to you. Use them to build your livelihoods. The skills you have acquired, if properly utilised, will enable you to support yourselves and your families,” she added.

Earlier, the initiator of the programme in the area, Tukur Wasoso, said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of Governor Nasir Idris and his administration to improve the economic well-being of women across the state.

“This initiative is aligned with the vision of the Kebbi State Government to uplift women and improve their economic well-being. We remain committed to supporting programmes that empower our people,” he stated.

Wasoso explained that the programme was designed to equip participants with practical, income-generating skills while also providing them with tools needed to start small-scale businesses within their communities.

Stakeholders at the event described the intervention as part of the wider Nasara Initiative for Women and Youth Development, a collaborative effort between the Nasara Foundation and Wasoso’s foundation, focused on reducing poverty and promoting self-reliance.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the training and support received would enable them to establish sustainable sources of income.

“We are grateful for this opportunity. The support we received will help us start something meaningful and improve our lives,” one participant said.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and distribution of starter packs, including tailoring equipment, laptops, and shoemaking machines.
