Lagos State has commenced its 2026 Pre-Season Training programme, bringing together key stakeholders across the agriculture value chain to strengthen productivity and improve food systems delivery. The initiative, led by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems in collaboration with the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA), sets the tone for the state’s agricultural priorities ahead of the new season.

The training, held at Phijul Events Gallery in Agege, is themed “Driving Agriculture Productivity and Food Systems Transformation through Resilient Extension Service Delivery.” It focuses on equipping extension officers and agripreneurs with updated knowledge, tools, and strategies required to support farmers more effectively at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the opening, Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, emphasised the importance of extension services in achieving food security. She noted that “the role of extension agents remains critical in bridging the gap between innovation and the farmer,” adding that Lagos is committed to building a responsive and resilient agricultural system.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of four new mobile helplines developed in partnership with OneFarm Nigeria. According to LSADA, the helplines are designed to provide real-time digital support to smallholder farmers and agribusiness operators, enabling faster access to advisory services and market information.

The programme also featured technical sessions, including a presentation by Dr Fadlullah Issa of the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), who delivered insights on strengthening extension systems to withstand climate and market disruptions.

Top-performing extension agents from various zones were recognised for their contributions, reflecting the state’s push to reward impact-driven service delivery. The training is expected to run through the week, with participants engaging in practical sessions aimed at enhancing field-level implementation.
