The Lagos State Government has disclosed that more than N6 billion has been disbursed to 123,314 vulnerable households across the state under the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, as authorities move to deepen social protection support for low-income residents facing economic hardship.

The disclosure was made during a quarterly review meeting organised by the State Cash Transfer Unit under the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment at the Management Resource Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

The meeting brought together programme facilitators, monitoring officials and representatives from the 20 local government areas of the state to assess implementation progress, review operational challenges and strengthen coordination tied to the federal-backed social intervention programme.

Speaking during the session, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, described the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme as a major support structure for vulnerable families across Lagos.

Ajigbotafe, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Lolade Aina, said stronger collaboration between the state government, local governments and community-level officials remained critical to ensuring the programme reaches intended beneficiaries effectively.

“The success of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme depends greatly on strong synergy between the State Government and Local Governments,” he said.

“Effective implementation can only be achieved when local government leadership, desk officers, facilitators, and community representatives fully take ownership of the programme.”

According to the commissioner, the review meeting was organised to evaluate the programme’s operational performance, identify implementation gaps and improve communication among field officers responsible for coordinating beneficiary engagement across communities.

He noted that several local governments recorded distribution efficiency rates above 90 per cent during the latest disbursement cycle, with Kosofe, Ojo, Ifako-Ijaye, Apapa, Badagry and Ikeja singled out for exceptional performance.

Ajigbotafe said the outcome reflected what could be achieved through effective coordination between the state and local authorities handling the programme at grassroots level.

He also urged officials across all councils to intensify mobilisation efforts and ensure vulnerable residents who qualify for the programme are not excluded from future disbursement exercises.

“All local government teams must intensify community mobilisation efforts, strengthen beneficiary engagement, and ensure proper follow-up during subsequent distribution exercises to guarantee that all eligible beneficiaries benefit from the Renewed Hope Initiative,” he said.

Officials at the meeting also participated in technical sessions focused on field operations, data management systems, monitoring processes and strategies aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of future payments.

The Lagos Conditional Cash Transfer Programme forms part of broader social protection measures designed to reduce the impact of rising economic pressure on vulnerable households through direct financial support.

The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme is one of the key intervention channels currently being implemented to support struggling Nigerians, especially low-income families affected by inflation, unemployment and the increasing cost of living.

With over N6 billion already disbursed to more than 123,000 households in Lagos alone, state authorities say efforts are ongoing to improve implementation, expand community participation and strengthen accountability mechanisms tied to future disbursement phases.
