The Lagos State Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen its social protection system with a renewed push to update the Lagos State Single Social Register, a key database used to identify vulnerable residents for government support programmes.

The exercise is being coordinated through the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, which on Monday convened a strategic engagement with Community-Based Targeting teams, local government coordinators, and field enumerators across the state’s 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

Held at the Radio Lagos Multipurpose Hall in Agidingbi, Ikeja, the meeting was themed “Closing the Gap: Accelerating Lagos State Single Social Register Update,” highlighting the state’s focus on improving data accuracy for targeted welfare delivery.

Why the social register matters

The Lagos State Single Social Register serves as a central database for identifying low-income and vulnerable households eligible for government intervention programmes.

The register plays a major role in ensuring that social support initiatives—including financial assistance, healthcare access, education support, and welfare schemes—reach those who need them most.

By updating the register, the state government aims to reflect changing socio-economic realities and improve the precision of its intervention planning.

Government calls for stronger field commitment

Speaking during the engagement, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Ope George, commended field officers involved in the update process and urged them to intensify their efforts to ensure wider coverage and more accurate data capture.

He said the Lagos State Government remains committed to continuously refining the register as part of broader efforts to strengthen data-driven governance and build a more inclusive welfare system.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Olayinka Modupe Ojo, described the register as a critical tool for effective planning and implementation of social intervention programmes.

According to her, the ongoing update will enhance data reliability, improve coordination among agencies, and strengthen service delivery outcomes across the state.

Statewide sensitisation underway

The government also disclosed that advocacy and sensitisation campaigns will continue across all 57 LGAs and LCDAs to encourage broader participation by residents.

Officials say the updated register is expected to widen access to intervention programmes while promoting transparency, stronger collaboration, and improved grassroots data collection across Lagos State.
