The Lagos State Government has launched a new partnership with GIZ SKYE (Skills Development for Youth Employment) to train 530 young people on job skills that improve employability. The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, is targeted at tech-inclined job seekers and unemployed youths across the state.

This was announced during the opening of the Industry Insider Series programme held at the Eko Job Centre in Owutu, Ikorodu. Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, was represented by the Permanent Secretary, ESV Olayinka Adebayo Wasiu. He explained that the programme is designed to help youths become job-ready through job counselling, CV writing, digital literacy, and exposure to workplace culture.

“This training will boost the confidence of unemployed youth, enabling them to apply for jobs more effectively, speak professionally, and manage workplace challenges,” said ESV Olayinka. “Employers are more inclined to hire candidates who are well-prepared and exhibit workplace readiness.”

The programme will run for eight months and will include 15 expert-led training sessions. These will be held at the Eko Job Centre and will cover various high-demand sectors, helping participants become more attractive in today’s job market. This initiative focuses on helping job seekers gain career development skills, interview preparation, and digital skills training—all of which are essential in a competitive economy.

The Commissioner restated the Lagos State Government’s dedication to youth empowerment as a key part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda. “We are gathered here because we believe in your potential,” he said. “With the right skills, guidance, and support, you can transform your lives and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our communities and the nation.”

GIZ SKYE also supported the renovation of the Owutu Job Centre. According to the Permanent Secretary, this is part of a wider effort to build capacity and provide young Nigerians with employment opportunities. He urged participants to stay focused and disciplined, saying that the knowledge they gain could open doors to high-paying jobs and long-term career growth.
