The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has reminded residents, developers, and property owners across the state to obtain planning permits before starting any construction work. According to the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, securing a planning permit is not only a legal requirement but also a step toward building a safer and more organised city.
Tpl. Osinaike explained that planning permits play a key role in maintaining the Lagos State Master Plan. These permits help control where homes, offices, schools, hospitals, churches, and even roads are built. Without these permits, there is a higher chance of unplanned development and problems like overcrowding, poor road access, and reduced property value.
He stressed that planning permits support legal construction processes and help protect property investments. They also ensure that new buildings match zoning regulations and contribute to proper land use across the state. With a valid permit, property owners can avoid fines, court cases, and even the risk of building demolitions.
Tpl. Olarinde Iyiola, the Head of LASPPPA’s Monitoring and Compliance Unit, also stated that permits improve safety and quality. Structures approved by LASPPPA are more likely to follow building codes, reduce environmental risks, and last longer.
He added that buildings with proper documentation often have higher resale value, as buyers feel confident in their legal status and construction quality.

LASPPPA officials emphasised that following proper planning guidelines supports sustainable development.
The agency is encouraging all stakeholders to always obtain a planning permit before starting any building project, whether it’s residential, commercial, or industrial. This helps prevent illegal developments and keeps the city growing in the right direction, as part of the state government’s long-term urban development goals.
