Work has officially begun on a major agricultural development project following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) and Dar Al-Halal Animal Farm. The partnership aims to establish a high-capacity meat hub in Nigeria to boost local meat production and support the export of high-quality beef.
The new meat hub is expected to improve food and nutrition security, increase livestock output, and create job opportunities for local farmers and communities. It will also support Nigeria’s position in the international meat market by promoting agricultural biotechnology and livestock investment.
During a recent visit to Dar Al-Halal Farm in Katsina, the Director General of NBRDA, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, commended the work already being done. “We are impressed with the dedication shown by the team at Dar Al-Halal. Their commitment will play a key role in the success of this initiative,” he said.
The farm’s Chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Dikko Ladan, and his team were recognized for their cooperation in moving the project forward.
Discussions during the visit focused on scientific strategies for managing the farm, ensuring sustainability, and integrating advanced research into the meat production process.
To support the technical side of the project, NBRDA has deployed expert staff to the site. These professionals will guide the operation using science-based methods at every stage of development.
The project will be rolled out in phases, allowing careful monitoring and evaluation. Once completed, the meat hub will contribute to Nigeria’s agricultural growth and help meet both domestic and international demand for premium meat products.
